ALT.SF4M Outer Limits • k******d@d*****i.com 02/03/1996 00:00:000 UTC Has anybody been watching "Outer Limits"? I recently caught a couple of episodes in a row. It wasn't half bad. The episode with the super-dense asteroid was cool. --Doc • s******j@**.com 03/03/1996 00:00:000 UTC I saw my first episode of this last night. It concerned a mars expedition whose crew were taken over by Pod People. Old idea, but pretty well done. Micheal Dorn was the best actor of the lot; it was interesting to see the guy w/o tons of makeup, and acting like a faux barbarian (I think I liked Klingons better when they were smart, sneering, cold- war style adversaries, not recycled scythians.) Not a bad episode, but I really resent the dumb moral lesson that they began the story with. The old Outer Limits had these too, but they occasionally covered moral lessons that were actually valid and thought-provoking. Like in the MONDO COOL episode O.B.I.T., in which a high-tech survaillance machine causes trouble at a military research station. The urge to spy on others becomes an obsession; people become paranoid, and eventually someone gets murdured. At the end, the creepy technician who installed the thing gets fingered. Turns out he's an alien, preparing for an invasion. His people deliberately introduced the things, to destroy morale. The story ended with the narrator saying that investigations were under way, and that the devices were being destroyed . . . but could they find them all? Would people give up the chance to eavesdrop, even when faced with an outside threat? MONDO cool. The other thing that bothered me: They didn't use the old theme music. This was a stirring, somewhat sad, elegeical instrumental piece. It was played over the end credits during the first season. Very evocative of one of the Outer Limits big themes, that there's a big universe out there, and we're bit players in it. --Stefan • b******c@u*******r.ca 03/03/1996 00:00:000 UTC In article <4hasbq$***@p****x.com>, Austin Dridge wrote: >Kevin Conod (k******d@d*****i.com) wrote: >: Has anybody been watching "Outer Limits"? I kind of like the idea that good wins out over evil most of the time. It doesn't seem to happen in real life enough. • Glen Chambers 03/03/1996 00:00:000 UTC I have watched quite a few episodes and I find for myself that I have enjoyed about 75% of them, I was surpised of the quality. • a******e@p****x.com 02/03/1996 00:00:000 UTC Kevin Conod (k******d@d*****i.com) wrote: : Has anybody been watching "Outer Limits"? It can be very good, but there are a few lemons mixed in. It has also been renewed for two more years. Do you see the one with the time traveler and serial killers? That was one of the best ones.
