Help with Dr. Who • j*****5@***.com 20/05/1996 00:00:000 UTC Need Help With A Report On Dr. Who I am writing a short (very short) report on the changes that have been made to the orighial Dr. Who since it was brought over from the UK. Keep in mind that I am a high school student from the USA and I have never really followed the good doctor very closely, but I know enough to get by. I am loooking for some help in making comparisons between the original series and the recent Fox movie (yes I DID tape the movie and I have a few old episodes on tape). But I was really looking for help from a dedicated follower or any follower for that matter. If you can help me out, mail me at J*****5@***.com, thanks. • s******j@**.com 21/05/1996 00:00:000 UTC The changes that were made to Dr. Who were not all that extraordinary, really! The series has never been especially consistent between "doctors" or seasons. There were always new writers and producers coming in. The one real, definitive change: A bigger budget and spiffy special effects. Oh . . . and the Doctor has a love interest. That's about it. The cosmetic stuff -- sets, etc. -- isn't really out of the ordinary. The BBC show chanced sets frequently. --Stefan -- +-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-+ ***@***.com ~ s*****s@a*****.***u.edu ~ s******j@**.com http://www.ini.cmu.edu/~sjones/ • k*******0@k*******n.edu 22/05/1996 00:00:000 UTC Actually, there is a huge debate raging on the Dr. Who newsgroup as to whether or not him being half human (as both the Doctor and Master stated) is at all consistent with the original series. It's like a war zone in there. Frankly I don't see the problem but I'm not as die hard as most of the people who read the newsgroup. Adam K. Stefan E. You can use any set lying around and fit it into the story line. Look, next door they were filming a WWII movie. When the filming was done, the Dr. Who producers could use they sets. It was pretty cool idea. --Glen • h*****d@a****.******a.net 21/05/1996 00:00:000 UTC Jon395 (j*****5@***.com) wrote: : Need Help With A Report On Dr. Who : I am writing a short (very short) report on the changes that have been : made to the orighial Dr. Who since it was brought over from the UK. A sad note that you might want to add to your report.... The 3rd Doctor, Jon Pertwee, passed away today. (At least the messages I saw were dated today.) TVO (the publically supported broadcaster in Ontario) used to have an introduction to the series called The Undoctor. That was about 10 years ago and if you contacted them they might be able to forward some info. Also, if anybody remembers the Undoctor they might some info. TVO was great for stuff like that. They showed The Prisoner series about 15 years ago and explained what was going on it, much like what was later done with Brideshead Revisited by William F. Buckley. • a****4@f******.********n.ca 24/05/1996 00:00:000 UTC Macarthur William (b******c@u*******r.ca) writes: > In article <4nqk36$**@n*******.****.***l.com>, Jon395 wrote:   >>Need Help With A Report On Dr. Who   >>   >> > TVO (the publically supported broadcaster in Ontario) used to have an > introduction to the series called The Undoctor. TVO was I remember the Undoctor, that was Judith Merrill, one of our guests last year at CAN-CON. To contact her, you would haveto contact the Merrill Collection (Formerly the Spaced Out Library, or SOL), which is part of the Toronto Public Library. ttyl Farrell
