     Actually, is this Farrell person a (recent) Forumite/Iconite? - the name

     seems familiar. I will assume, tentatively, that he is a she (it matters

     in direct proportion to the degree that we wish this to be a friendly

     place, rather than a truck-stop full of anonymous strangers).

     Ok, I see my postings now (I sort of figured they'd be instant on AOL).

     Where physically is the newsgroup? Somebody "ping" it for me, for old

     time's sake.

     This is neat, in the aspect that it's our little island, where we can

     write our own rules without worrying about a mob of disapproving

     Non-Forumites kvetching about this or that net etiquette crap (the

     littlest tyrants are the most petty). Not, of course, that there is a

     complete absence of that mentality in our crowd...

         Farrell is an old-timer; I think he was around from 1981-84 or so.
         Now

         resides in CA. (The one up north.) Used to run into each other a lot

         before I gave up conventions.

         Newsgroups are like God, or the Force; everywhere and nowhere.
         Copies

         of messages are sent out from the system you write it on and go to

         everywhere there's a newsfeed.

         The only thing that bugs me are spammers and people who assume this
         is a

         sex group. Otherwise, anything goes.

         Well, the translation is totally wrong. True, Mon Dieu is used as

         an exclamation in French, esp Quebecqous French...but the French
         word for

         "Shit" is Merde. So, if you wanted the closest thing to your english
         "Shit

         Jesus!", it would be "Merde, Mon Dieu!" Of course, as a command, it
         is

         very silly. "Shit my Lord!" Good Lord.. Sit My Lord! Here's a doggy
         biscit.

         Of course, if you want a really good scatalogical phrase in

         another langauge, you could always adopt the Erisian Mysteree Oath:

         "Fliegende kinderscheisse!"

         Been a Forumite since the early '80s. And I am a He.
