ALT.SF4M Books • m*******e@a****.***u.edu 19/06/1996 00:00:000 UTC I recently read Reel Future, ed. by Forry Ackerman & Jean Stine. This is a collection of short stories from which well-known SF films were made. I found it quite enjoyable. Some of these, such as Arthur C. Clarke's "The Sentinel" (2001) and John Campbell's "Who Goes There" have been anthologized many times before; others I never saw before. I especially enjoyed "This Island Earth", which was much better than the film. I'm currently reading George Alec Effinger's "A Fire in the Sun", the second book in a trilogy (now I'll have to find the other two. This is an unusual story about an Arab cyberpunk cop under the control of a crimelord. It's pretty good. Effinger gave one of the best Guest of Honor speeches that I-Con has ever had; we should definitely invite him back. --- Brian
