ALT.SF4M Old Technology moves over • g*****o@k****.****t.net 20/06/1996 00:00:000 UTC Yesterday I had my first ride on a WaterJet Ferry from Orient Point to Conn. The old ferry takes 1 1/2 hours while the new WaterJet takes only 45 minutes! The new boat has two high-powered waterjets which can turn 360 degrees. It was strange watching the boat move sideways when it needs to manuver into port. The amount of water that was passing thorugh the jets was mind-boggling. I spent 15 minutes just observing the outer engines and how they moved and reacted to waves. It was cool seeing this giant step in water propulsion. --Glen • s******j@**.com 20/06/1996 00:00:000 UTC In article <4qc4hr$***@r****.****t.net>, Glen wrote: >Yesterday I had my first ride on a WaterJet Ferry from Orient Point to >Conn. I wonder what would happen if, say, a dolphin got sucked into one of those intakes. Instant cetacean chum slick! Drawback: The ferry used to show movies in the lounge. I remember seeing a John Candy movie once. Now they'll be limited to shorts and cartoons. -- +-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-+ ***@***.com ~ s*****s@a*****.***u.edu ~ s******j@**.com http://www.ini.cmu.edu/~sjones/
