ALT.SF4M POV-Ray 3.0 is out. • m*******e@a****.***u.edu 27/07/1996 00:00:000 UTC The new version of the ray-tracing program POV-Ray is now available (at least for DOS, OS/2, and Linux) at ftp.povray.org. This is the program that Shadow uses to make those cool animations he sometimes displays at I-Con. I haven't had much time to look at it, but the new version seems to incorporate some new atmospheric effects as well as prisms generated by translating polygons. I am working on and off on drawing a picture of the observatory where my astronomy club meets, and I have done some Saturn images showing all of the rings, just as an experiment (with v. 2.2). It'll be interesting to see if these port to v. 3.0 without changes. (Now if only I can figure out how to write a Windows program that accesses the VGA registers directly rather than having to use the crappy Windows palette routines...) --- Brian "Windows sucks" McGuinness
