Fighting had broken out in the main power in the world the United American states that in 3070 had become the associated states of America because many had seceded from the union and wished a more economic association than political union The concept of association was created by Prime minister Paul Warescek of the peaceful state of Wyoming. The commonwealth and papal protectorate of Boston being the only catholic state in the American union and only hold out to association was seeking a more political alliance to the holy see. Boston's biggest reason for succession was over the United states use of matter teleportation devices that the Pope had condemned because the as he stated in his 400 address to the world wide web, "the soul cannot be transported." The few Protestant faiths left accepted transportation stating that the soul was present universally so the conversion of atoms to energy and back only moved the expression of the soul and where the expression was so was the soul but they had no explanation for how it traveled to meet it's host. meanwhile the city of Rome was filling up with pagan monuments as a protest to it's denunciation of matter transportation. Junk and even human remains were appearing randomly throughout the city. The Vatican counsel had discussed jamming transmissions into the city but then citizens might be dispersed into the electrosphere on transportation to and from the nearby states and murder was still a sin. Massive matter transportation devices were present in Rome only to clear the debri but could not keep up with the influx. The transmission of weapons was not possible as all energy devices were neutralized during transmutation so materialized nonfunctioning.. The counsel was to meet at 5 am GMT to discuss the situation but was postponed because the holy father had not finished a meeting with john McAdam the governor of Boston. John Sat sweating in his chair while his eminence rapped his pen on the desk to emphasize the more prominent parts of his argument the gist of which was that negotiations between Boston and The Wyoming government could not happen because any such communication could lead to decay of Boston's moral stance in the papal states and relegate it to the liberal category of papal states. After the Holy father had all but destroyed his pen John arrose to address the pope. "Your eminence the people of the commonwealth agree and have-not and will-not begin any discourse with the State of Wyoming but the members of the commonwealth are concerned that the church may condemn the citizens of the new association and this condemnation may cause discord within the commonwealth because the peoples of the common wealth still consider the citizenry of the association to be their brothers." The Pope recorded the statement and slowly tapped his pen against the marble trim on his desk after a moments contemplation he spoke slowly "we are considering that in counsel this morning I have postponed the counsel until this meeting has finished and in consideration of what you have just said I think Condemnation would be illadviseable John you may return home with my assurance that no condemnation will come from the church against the people but the association is still under condemnation not by the church but by God." John closed his personal recorder and thanked the father he stood to leave but his eminence casually signaled him to remain. John please think about this personally I want your opinion and not just the opinion of your house of commons I want to here a single persons voice and not that of the masses just what do you think about the situation the madness the anarchy and everything that steams by us everyday." John had never thought of the pope actually having a personality separate from the church so this instance of humanity set him back and nothing came to mind so much so that he had no real answer, the best he could do was offer to call him after he had time to consider the question. with that he excused himself from the audience and passed quickly out the door. John had always been brought up to think of an audience with the pope as a great formal occasion and now he was startled to realize that it could be a conversation with a real thinking man and not a discussion with god but now how to proceed do you just pick up the phone to the most important man on earth and say you think that we should just move the faithful off the planet and start again. ================================================================= next installment by request please state newsgroup in your Email I wrote this a number of years ago it's not good enough to publish but I thought some of you might like to read it it is a kind of wierd idea of the future.
