I've heard this before...and it's nothing new. The gamers wouldn't have minded the Forum being turned into a gameroom, the Bridge Card Players used the Forum as a Bridge Club...etc. Of course any such bid is doomed to failure, since without a library the Forum would be reassigned to a room the size of a postage stamp like all the other clubs.... --Doc k*****d@e******y.net • s******j@**.com 11/01/1997 00:00:000 UTC In article <5b5qcl$***@c****.****i.com>, riot nrrrd wrote: >I've heard horrid rumors that the goths want to get rid of some of >the BOOKS in the Forum so that they have more hangout space? >Please tell me this isn't true!!! JAM has looked into this and found out that it isn't so. The person he was counting on to let him know how things were going down in the 4M was either exaggerating or making things up. As Has Always Been, there's a lot of bickering, personality clashes and spite in the 4M, and JAM's informant apparently had a score to settle. JAM's niece visited and said things were cool. There'd be a lot fewer misunderstandings like this if student Forumites posted here now and then. Hey, I'm a GRAD STUDENT working on my THESIS and I still have time to report here! It probably couldn't hurt for Old Forumites to descend on the place now and then and witness for the ghost of forum past. And if they find the place actually stripped of books, to kill everyone present in a righteouss fury. --Stefan -- +-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-+ ***@***.com ~ s*****s@a*****.***u.edu ~ s******j@**.com http://www.ini.cmu.edu/~sjones/ CHARGES APPLIED FOR UNSOLICITED COMMERCIAL EMAIL! • y******d@p******y.com 13/01/1997 00:00:000 UTC p*******x@p***.****i.com (riot nrrrd) wrote: >I've heard horrid rumors that the goths want to get rid of some of >the BOOKS in the Forum so that they have more hangout space? >Please tell me this isn't true!!! Guys, I've said before, and I'll say again...the rumors you all are hearing about the current forumites are not true. Not only are they not planning to get rid of the books, I truly believe the current librarian is the best thing to have happened to that collection in years. She and I have talked about her plans to finally catalog everything down there and (gasp) even look into preserving the older, more fragile pulp magazines we've managed to accumulate. That's great to hear, Jill. Now what are my chances of getting a letter acknowledging my 1996 book donations before I have to submit my tax return? This is good news. There were people a few years ago who wanted to toss out the magazines (heard this first hand), and the computerization effort had stagnated last I dropped by. It takes only a few good people to counteract any number of slackers. I wish I had money and equipment to donate now, but I'm in debt (big IRAs and mutual funds, no cash!) and my wellsprings of computer stuff have dried up. When I move to whereever work takes my I'll have a shitload of books to donate, though.
