ALT.SF4M Proto-Babylon 5 Material • s******j@**.com 12/02/1997 00:00:000 UTC Here's something eerie: http://www.public.usit.net/~f-shysa/protob5.html This is a copy of a brochure from back when Straczynski was still trying to sell the concept. There are interesting differences between the show as it exists now and how it was concieved. The whole tone of the thing is different. It's described as "Casablanca in space" for one thing, which sounds neat. For another, Delenn is a GUY. As nice as it would be to imagine the show was plotted by JMS from beginning to end exactly as it came out, I can't believe it. It's a lot more consistent than most SF shows, but there is no denying the that the concept evolved as it went along. --SEJ -- +-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-+ ***@***.com ~ s*****s@a*****.***u.edu ~ s******j@**.com http://www.ini.cmu.edu/~sjones/ CHARGES APPLIED FOR UNSOLICITED COMMERCIAL EMAIL! • b********r@p*******e.com 13/02/1997 00:00:000 UTC s******j@**.com (Stefan E. The "Casablanca" reference was probably just to explain it to the network suits and doesn't mean a whole lot (although it sounds really deep). Delenn was initially supposed to change gender (along with growing hair), but the dubbing of a male voice over Mira's in the pilot didn't come off well, so jms dropped the whole concept. Stracsynski mentioned on one of the dicussion boards that the theme of the "arc" was about "killing your parents." I guess marrying a gender changing alien would have just about pinned the freudometer. - SEJ -- +-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-+ ***@***.com ~ s*****s@a*****.***u.edu ~ s******j@**.com http://www.ini.cmu.edu/~sjones/ CHARGES APPLIED FOR UNSOLICITED COMMERCIAL EMAIL!
