     Book Reviews!

     Endymion: sucked. Unnecessary, incomplete, annoying, and not good.

     Rehashes the tired and bad fantasy plot of a wise-beyond-her-years

     messiah-child and her incompetent, passive (male) guardian, pursued by
     an

     overwhelming force (the big, bad Roman Catholic Church). This

     automatically sets up a plot of trumping infinitives. Reminded me of the

     Ender books. Serves only as a prelude to the next book, where we may get

     a few things of interest Hyperion-wise. Simmons' writing style is very

     predictable here. "Iffy" on my provo rating scale.

     The Heechee Trip: Good for Heechee Saga fans, although the "Merchants of

     Venus" was the only narrative in it. A nice trip down memory lane,

     although Pohl's economics are absurd.

         Just read Sheffield's "Heritage Universe" (Summertide, Divergence,

         Transcendence, Convergence). Pretty good. Sort of a mix between the

         Gateway series and Known Space.
