ALT.SF4M SF4M: What a weekend! • John Cholewa 05/07/1997 00:00:000 UTC So, many things happened this extended weekend. Two up in space, and one fun little thing down here. Firstly, TV Guide put a special on SF this Saturday. For anyone interested, I taped it and will bring it in either Monday or Wednesday. It hosted William Shatner and was decently enjoyable. In orbit, the Russian space station, Mir, broke. One of their supply ships crashed into it, or something like that. Also, the Mars Pathfinder spacecraft bounced into Mars. After a bit of trouble, they're about to send its rover, the Sojourner, around on a joy ride (at the time of this writing, they've just worked out all the kinks). I taped as much of this stuff as I could, most (in fact, maybe all) of it stuff from CNN. Likewise, I'll bring it to the Forum this week for any interested Astronomers. -JC • j********o@***.com 08/07/1997 00:00:000 UTC In article <3*******.********C@b****m.com>, John Cholewa <**@b****m.com> writes: >In orbit, the Russian space station, Mir, broke. AP News Service: "A NASA disciplinary board today sentenced Flight Specialist Alec Linnes to a term of one to eleven months (depending on availability of return transport) aboard the imperiled Russian space station Mir as punishment for dereliction of duty on his recent flight aboard the space shuttle Columbia. Linnes is reported to have sobbed hysterically when sentence was passed. His lawyers plan a legal appeal of the decision, based upon a claim that the high degree and unpredictable nature of the dangers aboard Mir constitute a 'cruel and unusual' punishment."
