ALT.SF4M Phase 3rd Ed: Meet Net-cast • Michael R. Jeffs 29/08/1997 00:00:000 UTC # Channel Switch # # 389-42 # # Tal. Have we gotten another Transmit from Earth? Last checked, we were still 34 hours late from reception. I'm concerned. # # John. No Transmit so far. It's been 15 years since Earth has been more than 2 hours late on a Transmit. Something is wrong. Something serious. Should we wait longer? # # Tal. I don't think we have a choice, John. It will take us several days to send a Spacecraft. We'll wait it out. I'll inform the Meet of our decision. Earth Calendar : April 9th, 2284. 0700 The Meet is assembled. The governing body of the 5 million Humans now living on Beta Centauri. The Members mill around, look like they are in panic. Tal Meechum, one of the leading Members, looks around in disgust. ~Don't they know that panic like this will destroy Civilian Government and throw the world into chaos. Time to get this show on the road!~ "Order! Point!" Tal shouts. "Chair recognizes Tal Meechum, Member 85." Quiet and order slowly spread throughout the Meet chamber. Members are not happy but they are willing to listen to a person who may have a clue about what's going on. "As you know, I am Tal Meechum -- Member 85 of the Meet of Beta Centauri. Transmission from Earth is now 7 days late. This kind of tardiness is atypical of the governing bodies of the Sol System. We must assume foul play. Perhaps the Seccessionists in the asteroid belt finally made good their threat to close Earth off from trade. Perhaps a war has started. In any case, we must assume that our position here is safe -- for the moment. My Point-of-Order is: Should we interfere, assist, or even communicate with Earth at this time?" "Member 85 has called a Point-of-Order. Members, you may vote Yea or Nay." A chorus of Nays rings out. The Meet has decided. There will be no initiation of contact with Earth, until a Transmit is recieved from Earth; hopefully clarifying the situation there. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------- The following has been a brief excerpt from the setting of Phase, 3rd Edition SF RPG.
