ALT.SF4M Deep Impact • j*****s@**.net 13/05/1998 00:00:000 UTC Despite the horrid reviews that Newsday gave Deep Impact, I went to see it last Sat. and thought it was very good. I really felt the depression of the ultimate end being near along with the charaters. As long as you remember that this film is not an action film, but about people, you should enjoy it as well. The special effects weren't shabby either. Therefore, I liked Deep Impact. I was even "scared" when the movie just started by the mere fact of knowing what was going o happen. The movie itself was fine, but I was a little disappointed with the actual impact. The mushroom cloud and the destruction of NYC were cool. However, I was disappointed in that that's all tehre was. Most of the movie took place in DC yet we don't see DC get destroyed. We also don't see various European cities get destroyed. Nor do we see what NYC looks like after the wave recedes. The Statue of Liberty head floating through the submerged street was funny, but still, there was a lack of coolness for the overall impact. Also, where was the religous fanatic with the sign saying "The end is near (I told you so)" :-)? Jerry Katz
