     The Voyager episode where 7 of 11 has to run the ship alone was pretty
     good,

     actually.

     Book Review: Destiny's Road, by Larry Niven.

     Pretty good. Tells the story of a fugitive/wanderer exploring his
     retrograde

     colony planet and discovering its secrets. Much as I dislike science
     fiction

     without spaceships, it was entertaining enough, and the explanations at
     the end

     made up for the low tech level. A map would have been very helpful, as
     would

     as a more descriptive and complete dramatis personae (preferably placed
     in each

     story segment). Repeated a few pet ideas he's used before, which bugs
     me.

     Also too much of the Southern California lifestyle: *of course* the
     colonists

     brought Bell peppers! He never quite explained the potassium issue: how
     does

     non-human Earthlife survive without supplements?

     All these abandoned colonies: if someone is going to bankrupt the
     economy to

     send a colony ship, they sure as Hell are going to follow up!

     brunette and the curly haired ones were cute too).
