Book Review: Destiny's Road, by Larry Niven. Pretty good. Tells the story of a fugitive/wanderer exploring his retrograde colony planet and discovering its secrets. Much as I dislike science fiction without spaceships, it was entertaining enough, and the explanations at the end made up for the low tech level. A map would have been very helpful, as would as a more descriptive and complete dramatis personae (preferably placed in each story segment). Repeated a few pet ideas he's used before, which bugs me. Also too much of the Southern California lifestyle: *of course* the colonists brought Bell peppers! He never quite explained the potassium issue: how does non-human Earthlife survive without supplements? All these abandoned colonies: if someone is going to bankrupt the economy to send a colony ship, they sure as Hell are going to follow up! Gorno I'll take the Blind Mouse with the buck teeth, thank you! (Although the brunette and the curly haired ones were cute too).
