ALT.SF4M The Matrix • j********o@***.com 01/04/1999 00:00:000 UTC It's difficult to describe the plot without revealing too much, but it is reminiscent of both The Terminator and Dark City (which I still haven't seen!) A man discovers that his whole world is a delusion and must confront a harsh reality. Lots of neat ideas the plot pleasingly doesn't exhaust, it _demands_ RPG treatment (I hope someone talented seeks and gets the rights). Quite cool, though it should have been great. It was actually a better science fiction- than action-movie. The Hong Kong Action Theatre style (slow-mo, highly stylized posing) defused what should have been spectacular stunts and combats. The story also should have demonstrated the hero's progress incrementally: his unique talent should have been explored and made more rigorous. Not gory: I recommend it to even the most squeemish of Forumites. Gorno We used to be rebels: We still are. We are... The Romantics. • John Reddy 01/04/1999 00:00:000 UTC The plot and scenery are at times definitely reminiscent of Dark City. The special effects go on and on, and they don't overdo any particular effect. The slow motion seems to be used to show dialated senses, more than anything else. As far as the RPG aspect, this would definitely work well as a Whitewolf Mage game. Standard humanity vrs. technocracy, with the good guys some kind of cross between Akashic and Virtual Adepts. Overall, the movie kicked ass. :) . . .
