ALT.SF4M Forum Mailing List/Loop • j********o@***.com 27/07/1999 00:00:000 UTC I'm a bit unclear about the new Listbot mailing loop. Is it supposed to be for official announcements only ("Senior Pepe" seems to think this), or as a supplement/replacement for this newsgroup as a den or Forum weirdness (everyone else thinks this)? One wonders where outings to Metallica concerts figure in to official business... The stated rationale for the Listbot mailing loop seems to be to save the powers that be the annoyance of keeping their Forum mailing list up-to-date. But a Listbot loop is intended for the larger purpose of two-way communication, and naturally, "ordinary" Forumites have added their own insane thoughts to the list. Personally, I'd be hesistant to write freely with grown-ups like Sheldon Reavon on the list... Gorno "For shame, Bernice! Patronizing the mystifyingly legal gambling ventures of our Indian brethren is a way of doing penance for making them pick all that cotton!" • Blind Idiot God 27/07/1999 00:00:000 UTC Dave Weingart wrote in message news:7nkbeo$fnb$*@c****.****.***.... > One day in Teletubbyland, j********o@***.com (JohnGorno) said: > >I'm a bit unclear about the new Listbot mailing loop. The intent behind the list was to have a common address people could announce both social and club-related activities and have an audience that might vaguely be interested -- people not wanting spam involving activities wouldn't be on the list, and those wanting this could sign up at will. There would be no "in and out of the loop" except voluntarily. As with many forms of communication on the net, this purpose was confused almost on its inception, so people are often confused by the list content. As it is not 100% club business (or even 30% as far as I can tell), telling everyone on the previous "official" list to sign up there was very bad form. Ironically enough our librarian needs to read more carefully. I don't think there is any formal means for the club to advertise its official business at the moment. Hopefully this will change with the new semester and the membership's return from dormancy. Is Reavon actually signed onto the listbot?? Now I'm really amused. In response to popular demand, there's no more list. Bri -- try singing 'Du Hast' to the tune of 'I wanna hold Your Hand'. Ergo, alt.sf4m seems to be the way to go. (And it's not an official Forum list; I've been told that directly. Of course, alt.sf4m isn't official either, but here, we don't care who posts what.) Of course, the arguments that they gave were relatively bogus. I especially like the "don't send people two copies" after being told to use "reply to all" -- I have to compensate manually for something with a broken set up.
