ALT.SF4M SF4M Music CD? • Glen 12/03/2000 00:00:000 UTC I remember all the different favorite music of forumites through the different generations. Since it's so easy now to record music in MP3 format, do you think we all can put together some official SF4M music CD? Either make a single CD or maybe one of the past & present favorites? --Glen • p*******x@****.com 13/03/2000 00:00:000 UTC One day in Teletubbyland, Glen said: >the SF4M have a functional server for this use? I know that CDs and minidiscs hold about 74 minutes of audio music, but I'm clueless as to how many MP3s they hold. And would these be SF-related songs or just songs? -- 73 de Dave Weingart KA2ESK If you can read this, mailto:p*******x@****.com Y2K was over-hyped. http://www.liii.com/~phydeaux ICQ 57055207 • Rob Wynne 13/03/2000 00:00:000 UTC Dave Weingart wrote: :>One day in Teletubbyland, Glen said: :>>the SF4M have a functional server for this use? Well, Redbook CD Audio tracks are typically uncompressed .WAV files, and an mp3 file will usually be compressed between 5:1 and 10:1, depending on the options you set on your mp3 encoder. So, generally, you can get between 5 and 10 times the amount of music on the CD, if you put them on as mp3 files. The negative, of course, is that you can only listen to said CD on your computer -- a disk with 100 odd mp3 files on it won't play in your boombox or car cd player. :) :>And would these be SF-related songs or just songs? Being just a lurker in foriegn newsgroups, I'll leave this to your folks to debate. *grin* Rob -- Rob Wynne / The Autographed Cat / ***@a******a.net The best original science-fiction and fantasy on the web: Aphelion Webzine: http://www.aphelion-webzine.com/ Gafilk 2001: Jan 5-7, 2001, Atlanta, GA -- http://www.gafilk.org Here among the madness, don't forget it's all for dragons and stars. --Maureen O'Brian • p*******x@****.com 12/03/2000 00:00:000 UTC One day in Teletubbyland, Glen said: >I remember all the different favorite music of forumites >through the different generations. We could, but how could you pick? I know that my favorite songs tend to change over time. I rarely listen now to what I listened to in college (although WBAB is still playing it, which is kind of sad). -- 73 de Dave Weingart KA2ESK If you can read this, mailto:p*******x@****.com Y2K was over-hyped. http://www.liii.com/~phydeaux ICQ 57055207 • Stargazer 14/03/2000 00:00:000 UTC > I remember all the different favorite music of forumites > through the different generations. That's been on my to do list for some time now. The Official Forum soundtrack from the mid-to-late '80s already exists. All we need do is track down halfway decent copies of these (I think Stefan got his old turntable connected to his computer to transfer "Sounds from True Stories" onto CD). --Doc
