     Hey.

     Avoid Gateway at all costs.

     I-CON was good, but depressing.

     Then again, most things are depressing.

     Good seeing a lot of people, I finally got my ass on SOME kind of

     mailing list (Jim Pepe's).

     I'd say more, but I got a bad caffeine (sp.?) hit and I got da shakes.

         I've have friends who were more than happy with Gateway. OTOH,
         buying a

         major piece of hardware long distance can be a pain. I lucked out, a
         couple

         of years back: The repair center -- one one of two in the whole
         country --

         for a DOA monitor was a few miles away. If you get a lemon computer,
         you

         might spend a few weeks getting things straightened out.

         Gateway now has local retail centers. If they have one in your
         state,

         you'll be paying tax anyway, so it might pay to go to one.

         Somewhere, I have a stored letter from Bruce Sterling, to the effect
         that

         he isn't going to get another computer until they come out of molds
         like

         cheap rubber sandals, come loaded with any concievable software and
         cost

         $10.
