ALT.SF4M Fun with Fleckstone • s******j@f****.**o.com 23/02/2001 07:39:51 UTC Got tired of my computer's looks. Eight year old funky tower case. Went to Fry's. Thought the cases they had looked even worse: Cheap iMac ripoffs. (In 20 years, "That Double Ought Show!" will feature sets that have translucent blue computers.) So I decided to paint my case. Went to Michael's craft store. Held my nose to avoid potpourri poisoning. Get a can of Fleckstone. Other colors I already had: Black and Silver. Masked off the front of the case and sprayed thusly: Panel around drive bays: Black Radiator-like grille in front of fan housing: Silver Rim: Fleckstone over black. Case sides and top: Fleckstone. Back panel: Black. Looks damn cool. I'd post a picture on the website, but the pictures my webcam takes are pitiful. Maybe I'll take a real photo and scan it in. I highly recommend doing this. Beats the hell out of a plain putty colored case. Something I might do to another machine is based on a paint job I saw on a teenage girl's model rocket: Spray the case with a bright florescent color, clearcoat, dry thoroughly, apply strips of masking tape in various orientations, spray on heavy coats of black. Strip off tape. Great contrasty look. Dazzle armor for the Pepperland Royal Navy. And, um, if you do do this, it's a really good idea to empty out the guts of the machine first. Unless you need an excuse to upgrade.
