ALT.SF4M ICON 20 part 3 • j********o@***.com 07/04/2001 03:26:11 UTC More highlights of my I-Con experience: Marjorie Monaghan's bio made her sound so sweet that I couldn't resist the urge to say hello as she was packing up from her autograph session, just to tell her that I enjoyed her work and to thank her for attending. When I asked if she were enjoying the convention, she gave a very enthusiastic "Yes!" As I walked away, Dave Kingsly came over to say the exact same things... it's nice to give the nice ones an ego boost. Erin Grey, who wasn't at all attractive 20 years ago, looked very good (she wears glasses, natch) - it took me some time to believe that she was who she is (unless that was that Eve/Livia girl, which I don't think it was)... some women just improve with age and her photo doesn't do her justice. I explored the building site of the new stadium. I swear, if it had been remotely possible, I would have climbed that crane. Coolness. The cyclopean stands, now plain concrete, have a very Star Wars-ian style, a fitting companion to the Imperial Sports Complex. The view from the top deck overlooking the pharaonic construction pit (I went to college too, you know) was most impressive: I spread my arms and let the wind whistle around me. Magnificent. The hospitality of Doctor Rob and Anna is boundless, although it was a dangerous mistake to try to sleep there! Thanks especially for the sick-bay Sunday night, when I got to befriend little Sammy the dog and play peek-a-boo with the sassy cats that frequent their yard. I've got to stop Sleep Driving before I kill someone who matters. My gratitude to Lincoln and Robbo for their medical expertise, which was very comforting when I had my little problem on Sunday night. Apologies to the others at our table for upsetting the evening. Talking with new Forumites, I gather that I have entered the Forum pantheon as a kind of boogeyman - younglings cringe in fear at my mere name. "If you miss your shift, the Gorno will come and devour you!" It is always fun to watch the cognitive dissonance of people I've had virtual run-ins with, as they try to correlate someone who writes (to their sensibilities) like Genghis Khan, but talks like Mister Rogers. to be continued... Now I get to imagine some horrifying scene. Green projectile spew; charging paddles; IVs into the skull; Lincoln, Rob and George Clooney trying to hook up an MP3 player to a machine that goes "PING." >Talking with new Forumites, I gather that I have entered the Forum pantheon as >a kind of boogeyman - younglings cringe in fear at my mere name. That would have been fun to watch. If I ever make it back for an I-Con I'll have to break out my eye patch and maybe use a cane and one of those electric voice boxes. Telling about the time a bum almost lit me on fire through one of those should raise a few eyebrows.
