ALT.SF4M UPS Works! • s******j@f****.**o.com 13/04/2001 05:44:14 UTC A few minutes before logging on, I noticed a bit of crud on my framed Masters diploma. I tried to scratch it off. No dice; turned out to be something inside the frame, under the glass. So I took the frame down and started tapping and knocking it so the crud would get dislodged. Eventually it fell to the side of the frame. I tapped some more to re-center the actual diploma, then rehung the frame in its spot right behind and mover my monitor. A few minutes back, the the frame fell right off the wall. Slipped grace- fully behind my computer desk. There was no sound of broken glass, but there WAS an alarm. An unfamiliar and annoying beeping. Took me a moment to realize that the falling frame had knocked my computer's power cord out of the socket. Specifically, it knocked the UPS power cord out. It kept things running long enough for me to fish the diploma out from behind the desk and reinsert the plug. I feel prepared for the long, hot summer . . .
