ALT.SF4M Possible future trouble with e-mail and posting. • RH 05/06/2004 03:27:24 UTC Seems to be a new push on for this hashcash stuff. If there comes a time that this will be required to post, it's the end of posting for me. I'm sure for most others here as well. No one in their right mind is going to spend 1.5 hours to mint a token to post or e-mail only one msg. So, don't be surprised if in the near future any e-mailing or posting to this or any other NG ends abruptly. Enjoy it while you still can folks. -- RH • blackjuju 05/06/2004 17:20:54 UTC RH wrote: >Seems to be a new push on for this hashcash stuff. >If there comes a time that this will be required to post, >it's the end of posting for me. I think the RW average time for 28 bits would be in the range of 20-30min (machine depending of course). Still it would suck for posting to usenet..and I certainly would not waste my time or machine cycles. As it is at the moment..hashshit is only being tested on m2n gates. Unless remailers start to implement hashshit..it should not affect e-mail. But then again..once you poke a hole in the dam.... -- ~juju • Nephelin 06/06/2004 15:11:51 UTC RH wrote: >Seems to be a new push on for this hashcash stuff. As always..my view is 'Why do things if they are only to end up being done in vein'. Let me ramble on... Geeks have top end boxen...so minting is not a problem. These same types live to throw monkey wrenches in to the works. They do not mentally mature...ever. Captain Crunch is a perfect example. To this day he still shoots his load by phone freaking as he did when he first did it. In conclusion...the ones that get off on flooding will still flood. The rem-ops will ultimately raise the bit requirements in an attempt to fight back (pissing contest). Thus...the people they will only rid will be the legit users. The oldest argument for having remailers etc. was so that people would have the ability to speak freely without the fear of repercussions from people whom may not agree with their views. People that may wish to 'blow the whistle' will now (if hashcash gets implemented fully) have to sit and mint tokens giving plenty of time for someone to look over their shoulders. Thusly destroying this avenue. Destroy the legit reasons for anonymity and you now have opened the door for govs etc. to ban their use altogether. After all..if the only ones now using the system are trouble makers...... The 'most' important and difficult thing to posses in life and in which life has zero meaning without...IS FREEDOM. People at the top will always have theirs and it is in their best interest to chip away at every one else's. The proof is written in any history book for all to witness. Too bad human kind has not the ability to learn from it. Weird! Ahhh...crash...ouch. Oops, just fell off the soap box, hehe. Anyway...I doubt that this hashstuff will ever fly fully. I personally could not care less..but for peeps like Sats, Siru...it may pose a problem. (Hey, Neph. Why did you not just say the above line instead of being so long winded?) Good point! It must be a mute-gurl thing, hehe. -- Nephelin -l-
