Some say that Chuck Winthrop was an undergradute at SUNY at Stony Brook. It is said that after a night out drinking, Chuck passed out. His inebriated buddies thought it would be good sport for Chuck to wake up in a loaded trash bin. When he didn't show up, they went looking for him...but they couldn't remember in which bin they'd left him. They started to panic, banging on trash bins all over campus, trying to rouse him even as the trucks came to empty the bins.

Chuck was never seen again. So they say.

There are rumors of a campus tradition that, on the anniversary of his disappearance, students go around banging on trash bins, exhorting Chuck Winthrop to awaken.

Members of the Science Fiction Forum would never participate in such an egregious display of insensitivity and bad taste.
